the eyes were fixed on his

his gaze followed

the tea dripping on her lap

conference meetings

in a foreign city

no such thing as shame

when one’s traveling

she ignored

the ring adorning his hand

he dismissed

everything she had to say

it began to rain

she remarked the rain

he ate late lunch

idiosyncratically

she will brag

to her friends about her date

with the European

he will tell his wife he missed her

he paid for both

she scratched her neck

soon they’ll be strangers

on the same train
